Masterworks Overview:Masterworks is the only platform for investing in blue-chip, multi-million dollar artworks. Prior to Masterworks, the only way to allocate to art was to purchase a multi-million dollar painting, making the asset class inaccessible for most investors. The company has over 900,000 users signed-up purchasing shares in primary offerings representing over 900M AUM and trading shares in a secondary market.Position Overview:We are seeking a Data Engineer to join the Masterworks Research team. A successful candidate will have a strong background in building ETL and ELT pipelines, data modeling, data cleaning and transformations to be used for reporting, analytics and knowledge of data science. This position will be responsible for managing existing data pipelines, developing new data pipelines, maintaining and building out new internal tools using Retool, and ensuring the data analytics team can access all art market data seamlessly. We are looking for an individual (self-starter!!!) that can demonstrate the ability to work independently, take initiative, has a passion for innovation, and a strong technical data skill set. The role would be a member of the Research group at Masterworks and work closely with all members of that team, which includes other data engineers, the data collection team and data science team.Responsibilities Overview:
- Assist in maintaining and developing data architecture that is flexible and scalable
- Make Masterworks data more discoverable, organized and easy to use for Data Scientists and Analysts across the company
- Identify data infrastructure issues, propose, and implement solutions
- Support and maintain Data Warehouse solutions, utilizing dimensional modeling techniques and data engineering best practices
- Develop and maintain internal Retool tools to enable our data collection team with seamless manual data input and cleaning
Requirements and Preferred Experience:
- 3 - 5 years of experience in data engineering
- Skillset
- Ability to translate stakeholder requests into sensible data architecture
- Experience with Dimensional Modeling (Kimball methodology) Medallion architecture & Data Warehouse design
- Experience orchestrating ETL pipelines via DAGs (Airflow)
- Experience with orchestration of the modern datastack using tools such as dbt, airflow, dagster or similar
- Experience with AWS data tools like Redshift (preferred), ECR, Secrets Manager, S3 and Lambda
- Expertise in SQL
- Experience with modern programming language(s), (Python etc.)
- Experience with Docker and hosting services (ECS, EKS)
- Experience with Retool (preferred)
- Ability to make sound, complex decisions in a fast-paced technical environment
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science or another related field
- Experience with building and maintaining automated systems for data collection
Measurements of Success in First 90 Days:
- Gain familiarity with all existing Masterworks sources of data, data model and architecture
- Familiarize yourself with all internal tools in Retool and be be able to maintain and improve them
- Begin execution on 1-2 new projects outlined by the research team
