The NAACP Legal Defense & Educational Fund, Inc. (LDF) is the countrys first and foremost civil and human rights law organization. Founded in 1940 under the leadership of Thurgood Marshall, who subsequently became the first Black U.S.Supreme Court Justice, LDF was launched at a time when the nations aspirations for equality and due process of law were stifled by widespread state-sponsored racial inequality. From that era to the present, LDFs mission has been transformative to achieve racial justice, equality, and an inclusive society.

LDFs litigation, public policy advocacy and public education programs in the substantive areas of criminal justice, economic justice, education and political participation seek to ensure the fundamental and basic human rights of all people to quality education, economic opportunity, the right to vote and fully participate in democracy, and the right to a fair and just judicial system.

LDF seeks a Data Custodian. This role will work hand in hand with the Archives Department (based in NYC) to provide accountability to ensure all system-wide data is accessible to authorized users, accurately processed, and effectively governed. This position reports to the IT Manager.

Subject to LDFs prior approval, this position may have the option to be remote until Friday, January 7, 2022. Beginning Monday, January 10, 2022, any candidate selected should be prepared to report to work in the office location assigned to this position.

**Responsibilities:**

* Ensure access to all data is authorized and controlled;

* Responsible for confirming the safe, accurate, and controlled sourcing, transformation, and storage of data within specified applications;

* Oversee and implement data quality rules within applications in coordination with Data Stewards and IT Staff;

* Maintain documentation regarding data level lineage within specified applications;

* Maintain documentation regarding methods to resolve data quality issues;

* Oversee controls to safeguard all system-wide data;

* Monitor consistency of data across all internal data sets;

* Maintain disaster recovery plans in the event that data is impaired, inaccessible, or destroyed;

* Work closely with the IT team to define requirements, limitations, and needs for existing (and new) applications;

* Assist in creation of numbering system for all cases, campaigns, projects, and business activities;

* Assist in the creation of a metadata taxonomy to apply across all system-wide data;

* Ensure data-storage systems are in compliance with any applicable regulations;

* Perform change management practices within database, as needed;

* Audit data content, as needed;

* Occasional travel to Washington, D.C. and Atlanta, GA; and

* Other responsibilities as assigned.

**Qualifications:**

* A minimum of 5 years of experience in a data custodian position;

* Commitment to the racial justice mission of LDF;

* Manage day-to-day operations of data storage, quality, transformation, and transfers;

* Drive application enhancements and change initiatives;

* Ability to understand technical infrastructure, including application operations;

* Knowledge of data security and implementation of data quality rules;

* Experience managing data dictionaries, and upstream/downstream data consumption;

* Excellent attention to detail;

* Strong problem solving skills;

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills; and

* Must be able to work independently with minimal oversight.
