Communications Manager Job Summary:

The Office of NY State Senator Samra Brouk seeks an organized, detail-oriented and collaborative Communications Manager with excellent written and oral communication skills. This position requires a person with an understanding of our Rochester community, strong writing skills, and genuine interest and ability to connect with members across our community.

In this office, our work is guided by our commitment to serving the children, families, workers and seniors who live in Senate District 55, with an emphasis on policy initiatives in the areas of maternal health, mental health, health, education, environmental protections, and social justice. We are guided in our everyday efforts by our commitment to being a voice in government for the most vulnerable members of our community.

Areas of Responsibility

  • Plan, develop, write and communicate messaging for the Senator, including remarks and talking points, press releases, social media captions, website content and email newsletters.
  • Manage the visual elements of social media, including graphics, photography, and video.
  • Draft emails, letters, and other written material that capture the Senator s voice and values with technical precision.
  • Organize press events and coordinate communications with the local Rochester press corps and state-wide print, television and radio outlets.
  • Work collaboratively with the Legislative Director and stakeholder groups on communicating and disseminating policy messages.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent writing skills;
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely to a variety of audiences;
  • Work effectively with a diverse group of elected officials, staff, journalists, stakeholders and other constituents;
  • Strong organizational skills including the ability to prioritize, meet daily deadlines and maintain consistent attention to details;
  • Good analytical, problem solving and computer skills;
  • Ability to be flexible, think creatively and enjoy learning new things;
  • Photography & videography skills are a plus;
  • Interest in social policy and familiarity with the issues facing Rochester community are a plus;
  • Capable of multitasking in a team-oriented environment; and
  • 3-5 years experience of communication, public relations, public service and/or customer service experience.
