Job Description:
Principal Responsibilities:CampSeneca Lake (CSL) is a premier co-ed overnight summer camp set on 200+ acres onSeneca Lake in the beautiful Finger Lakes Region of Western New York. For over90 summers, CSL has given campers in grades 3-12 a special place to recharge,unplug, and connectto nature and friends. CSL welcomes all campers into asafe, compassionate community where each child is encouraged to become theirbest self.Childrenfrom all backgrounds come together to learn essential life skills that willstay with them through adulthood. Campers develop independence, form lifelongfriendships and a deep connection to a tight-knit community that is strong atits core. CSL is owned and operated by the Jewish Community Center of GreaterRochester, and we are an inclusive community center and camp that welcomescampers and staff of all faiths, backgrounds, and ages.This role is a seasonal, full-time position. Duringthe summer session, the position includes evening hours.The Camper Care Specialist reports to the CampDirector. Specific Responsibilities of the Camper Care Specialist include, butare not limited to:
  • Playing a role in theplanning and implementing staff training and ongoing staff learningrelated to mental, emotional, social, and spiritual health (MESSH).
  • Creating and implementingprogramming for small groups of campers focused on wellness andsocial-emotional learning.
  • We serve as a resource tocampers throughout the summer, helping them face mental, emotional, andsocial health challenges and creating environments where campers canthrive.
  • Managing information aboutcamper needs, and communicating those to staff, as well as documentingcommunication and plans within CSL's systems.
  • Communicating and managingrelationships with parents/caregivers regarding camper needs.
  • Be an active presence on-siteat camp as a part of the community.
  • Additional responsibilitiesas required.
Minimum Qualifications:Requirements
  • Available for the entire CampSeason, 6/19/2024 - 8/19/2024 or 6/30/2024-7/25/2024 partial season
  • A recent graduate-level orhigher degree in a mental health field, including, but not limited to,social work, mental health counseling, psychology, youth psychiatry,family therapy, etc.
  • Prior camp experience inworking with young children is optional but not required.
  • Exceptional skill andcapacity for engagement and relationship building with children and theirparents.
  • Proven ability to plan,originate, and organize programs.
  • Proven ability to provideemotional support to a wide range of ages.
  • Strong understanding of, anda willingness to be creative with, strategies to ensure campers of varyingneeds can be part of a mainstreamed program.
  • Be a leader, self-starter,and strong collaborator.
  • The ability to acceptguidance, constructive feedback, and support from teammates.
Compensation:
  • 6/19/2024-8/19/2024 full campseason onsite, or 6/30/2024-7/25/2024 partial season onsite
    • Room and boardprovided.
    • $6500-7000 for full camp, prorated for partial
  • Supervision of hoursprovided. This position is granted-funded and offers professionaldevelopment from the funder.
