Position Overview:

Be a part of the fastest growing business in the art market. We are looking for a resourceful and ambitious Associate Director to handle outbound prospecting for the Acquisitions team. You will be responsible for managing a broad list of contacts and growing a book of business to buy artworks from. You will be the first point of contact to help introduce Masterworks to prospective new clients in the art market.

Our Associate Director will become an expert on the Masterworks pitch to dealers, galleries and collectors. This is the perfect position for anyone looking to grow within a specialist role. The role will work collaboratively and cross functionally with other teams, including private sales and research.

The Associate Director will be a part of our incredible Art Acquisitions team and report initially to a Senior Director, Acquisitions. ****

Responsibilities Overview:

As an Associate Director, you will be responsible for:

  • Defining and implementing strategy around outreach and engagement around 1,000+ existing low touch relationships, including, but not limited to:

    • Regular newsletters
    • Email blasts
    • Text messaging
    • Webinars
  • Managing CRM (Hubspot)

    • Routinely going through the client list in Hubspot to identify clients who have not been contacted within a specified time range
    • Tracking success of various outreach campaigns and proposing adjustments to increase response rates
  • Prospecting new relationships

  • Using a variety of sources, like Masterworks' internal database, Instagram, news outlets and various publications to identify artworks owned by collectors

  • Outreach to potential clients with the goal of introducing them to Masterworks and sourcing artwork.

Requirements or Skill Sets:
  • 4+ years of experience at a gallery, auction house or similar, with an advisor, as a cataloguer or junior specialist

  • Extensive knowledge of the Post War and Contemporary Art
  • You know how to prioritize
  • You love research and problem solving
  • You write flawlessly with clarity, brevity and impact
  • Familiarity with AirTable and Hubspot a big plus
  • You have task management superpowers Clickup, Monday, Asana, Airtable, etc.
  • Fast learner with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Need to be in high-growth, fast-paced environment
  • Experience with outreach and sales development, a plus

Measurements of Success in First 90 Days:

  • Familiarize yourself with Masterworks business model and be able to explain it to prospective business partners
  • Getting fully up to speed on Masterworks' list of 60 artist markets and client pitch
  • Successfully reaching out to 500+ prospective clients, setting up introductory or refresher calls on how to work with Masterworks
  • Hone your pricing skills and join regular pricing session to understand how we value blue chip works
  • Getting up to speed on how to provide feedback to business partners on paintings they offer to you

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be able to work in the NYC office.
  • Must be eligible to work in the US - no exceptions.

How does Masterworks think about compensation?

The compensation range for the role is $80-100k (inclusive only of base salary, and exclusive of other potential competitive benefits such as on-target commission, bonus payments, and equity). Our ranges are very broad to accommodate all types of candidates and encourage growth. Specific compensation offered to a candidate may be dependent on factors such as education, experience, qualifications, and alignment with market data. Exceptional candidates may receive salaries outside of the posted ranges.
