Senior Associate, Risk Management (NYC)Company Description My Client's core focus is to support growing U.S. based small and medium sized companies through flexible capital solutions. The firm invests capital across a range of products including first and second lien term loans, unitranche facilities, mezzanine investments and minority equity positions. My Client's approach is to provide clients with an experienced investment team active in sourcing, diligence, and driving growth for our portfolio companies. The firm seeks opportunities across five business verticals: Business Services, Franchising, Healthcare Services, Transportation & Logistics, and Technology and Telecommunications. Position Description The Senior Associate is responsible for the day-to-day monitoring of the investment portfolio and industries, assisting in underwriting/approving amendments and new deals for existing portfolio names covered (upsizes, repricing, etc.), assisting the lead manager on any restructurings in portfolio names covered, valuing the debt/equity instruments held in the portfolio and providing support to ratings agencies for the portfolio; ultimately acting as portfolio manager for a set number of credits across multiple funds. The Senior Associate will research, conduct analyses, and make recommendations on investments, working closely with other Credit and Risk Management team members, Investment Professionals, and external parties such as portfolio company management teams, valuation firms, restructuring advisors, etc. On extensions of new investments to existing clients the Senior Associate on their assigned names, or on industries where they have developed expertise, will participate the underwriting of the incremental investment. Responsibilities
  • Analyze financial statements, build financial models, analyze macro and micro trends, and articulate fundamental/investment facts and opinions
  • Read and understand credit documentation for each new and existing deal in portfolio coverage
  • Conduct quarterly valuation and credit reviews of investments
  • Assist in the underwriting of and obtaining approval for amendments, upsizes, refinancings and other transactions within the existing investment portfolio
  • Assist the lead analyst on the restructuring for investments in their portfolio and work closely with other Credit and Risk Management team members/the Chief Credit Officer on these distressed deals, if applicable
  • Cover one or more industries, develop coverage list in conjunction with portfolio needs
  • Conduct quarterly valuation and credit reviews of investments
  • Prepare reports on the investment portfolio for both internal and external parties where required, must be able to prepare and disseminate relevant MIS in a user-friendly format
  • Develop industry outlook thesis and fundamental outlook and establish the framework for looking at all industry names on a relative basis
  • Attend and participate in meetings regarding new and existing investments
  • Assist in managing financial data and credit database, in addition to participating in ad-hoc projects for fund raising and investor purposes
Key Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree, finance, accounting or business degree preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a Credit Analyst, focus on middle market lending-credit preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Fundamental credit analysis skills, including the ability to evaluate financial data, spread financial statements and to calculate financial ratios
  • Working knowledge of cash flow models
  • Ability to distill a substantial amount of qualitative and quantitative information (operational and financial) into a succinct, coherent and actionable investment thesis
  • Familiarity with loan documentation and credit agreements
  • Sound judgment with willingness to put forth an opinion, often in situations where there is a time and/or information constraint
  • Strong computer skills to include word processing and database/spreadsheet applications
  • Demonstrated ability to be a collaborative and flexible team player
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and take proactive measures to manage workload and/or issues with appropriate urgency, timeliness, and responsiveness to meet deadlines and organizational needs.
