If you'd like to know more, check out all of the .JOB SUMMARY:Under general supervision, the Associate Director of Intercultural Engagement develops and implements educational and co-curricular programs regarding diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness. Ensures that faculty, staff, and students understand the university's focus on diversity and inclusion through collaboration with campus offices and organizations. Work to elevate the voices of students from underrepresented groups and promote genuine equity, inclusion, and belonging.ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Oversees the day-to-day operations of the department including hiring, training, evaluating, and supervising staff.
  • Develop rapport and enter into relationships with students to provide one-on-one support to students who utilize the office and seek guidance. Engage proactively with students, providing mentorship and success coaching.
  • Provide vision and direction for inclusion and belonging initiatives in student affairs with particular focus on diversity, equity, and access, and serve as an advocate for the interests of LGBTQ+ and BIPOC students.
  • Responsible for supervising educational and co-curricular programs including the Big Eagle Little Eagle Mentoring Program and mentoring group for women and men, addressing issue of equity and bias.
  • Collaborate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of campus-wide programming that promotes diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness.
  • Collaborate with the Admissions Department to assist in the recruitment of underrepresented students.
  • Exhibit an understanding of the current best practices in the field of student development and an awareness of emerging issues in higher education including: social justice, cultural competency, retention and persistence, at-risk student factors, community building, and student learning.
  • Manage the operating budget and expenditures related to the center to support decision-making.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information (including but not limited to: student and employee personal information, student grades, etc.), both during and after their employment with the University. Any question regarding the confidentiality of material, should be referred to the supervisor. Any violation shall subject the employee to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:65% Develop, market, administer and evaluate programming focusing on diversity and inclusion for students, faculty, staff and members of the surrounding community.15% Provide direct supervision to students leading co-curricular programs and organizations10% Develop and submit required reports and proposals 10% Advise and mentor students from underrepresented groups. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of best practices as it relates to diversity and inclusion.
  • Ability to conceive and implement new programming with limited supervision.
  • Ability to counsel students on Niagara University's programs.
  • Ability to conduct program assessment/evaluation of student participation in support programs and the impact on their retention, persistence, and graduation.
  • Ability to read and comprehend various forms, documentation, files and information in the department.
  • Knowledge of use and assessment of social media initiatives.
  • Proficiency to handle various office machines including but not limited to: typewriter, computer keyboard, computer software applications, calculator, copy machine and fax.
  • Ability to receive telephone calls, respond to inquiries and communicate with others by telephone.
  • Excellent organizational, oral, written and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to drive a personal or university vehicle for the purpose of university business.
  • ERGONOMIC REQUIREMENTS:The functions of the position usually performed sitting, but may require some amount of time standing. Some amount of stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, lifting, walking, carrying and other movements may be required. Tasks involving working on a computer keyboard, computer software applications, and calculator, involve extensive wrist and hand movements. All individuals are required to be able to perform these movements without significant risk of injury to themselves or others.QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
  • Master's degree in related field required.
  • Minimum of two years of progressive experience in diversity and inclusion based programming, preferably in an institution of higher education.
  • Valid driver's license required. License must satisfy both the University and insurance company rules and regulations for driving underwriting criteria.
