Job Description:

The State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate Health Sciences University (Downstate) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor to lead a laboratory research program in one or more field of cognitive neuroscience, preferably involving learning and memory. Research projects may be at the molecular/cellular, circuit and/or systems level, and involve experimental and/or computational approaches.

The faculty member will be expected to build a collaborative, interdisciplinary research team supported by robust extramural funding that will lead to consequential contributions to scholarship and advancements in biomedicine. The faculty candidate is encouraged to interact with current Downstate neuroscience researchers in Physiology & Pharmacology, Ophthalmology, Neurology, Psychiatry, and other departments, helping to make the institution more competitive for large collaborative institutional grants. The faculty member will contribute to teaching and training of medical students in the College of Medicine and MD/PhD and PhD graduate students in the School of Graduate Studies' Neural & Behavioral Science program.

Qualifications: Applicants must have a doctoral degree (MD, PhD, MD/PhD or equivalent) in neuroscience and/or related discipline. Applicants may have a range of scientific expertise that includes basic laboratory research or clinical/translational research. Applicants should have high potential for substantial federal funding, an outstanding record of neuroscience research, and a dedicated commitment to scholarly mentorship. The successful applicant will be expected to establish an innovative and independent research program that will attract and maintain extramural federal funding. Experience teaching and/or mentoring pre-doctoral or medical students is preferred.
