Job Description: Description of Department: The Curriculum & Instruction Department has been a central part of the college's history since 1861, when the first programs in elementary education were offered. The department consists of 25 full-time faculty, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in childhood education, adolescence education, TESOL education, literacy education and special education. Click here for more information on benefits for full-time United University Professions (UUP) faculty.Date of Appointment: Fall 2024Description of Responsibilities: The Assistant Professor of Childhood will teach undergraduate and graduate Childhood methods courses in the Childhood Education 1-6 program, supervise Childhood education candidates in field experiences; provide program and academic advisement; participate in program development, evaluation, and self-study, and School of Education accreditation assessment processes; and serve on department, School of Education, and university committees.In addition, the Assistant Professor of Childhood Education will be expected to display a demonstrated excellence in teaching and scholarship potential, commitment to undergraduate and graduate education, and possess communication and interpersonal skills to effectively work with a diverse array of students and colleagues.SUNY Oswego works continuously to create an inclusive environment which respects, embraces, and promotes cultural safety, belonging, civil discourse, cultural humility, and other values and goals outlined in SUNY Oswego's Strategic Diversity and Inclusion Plan. • Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction (or closely related field with a focus in Childhood Education). ABD will be considered with degree completion within 2 years.
• A minimum 3 years teaching experience as a Childhood educator in grades 1-6 and commitment to promote equity in schools and support all students' abilities to succeed in a multicultural and global community.
• A demonstrated ability to design instruction in alignment with standards for Childhood Education.
• Demonstrated knowledge to focus on interdisciplinary and authentic learning.
• Understanding and implementation of the School of Education Conceptual Framework with an emphasis on teaching for Social Justice.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Sustained teaching experience as a Childhood educator in K-12 schools with professional emphasis on teaching for social justice, collaboration, and interdisciplinary learning.
• Knowledge and experience in Childhood literacy instruction and practices
• Experience with supervising teacher candidates and mentoring pre-service teachers and student teachers.
• Experience with school partnerships.
• Higher education teaching experience.
• Candidates whose research is within Latino Studies or whose professional engagements have been with Latino communities.
