Marvel is seeking a qualified candidate for an assistant editor role supporting juvenile & licensed projects! The ideal candidate will assist the supervising editor in the creation, development, and shepherding of Marvel stories through licensed partnerships aimed at a juvenile readership. Titles include everything from board books to middle grade graphic novels, to young adult prose, to manga, as well as traditional monthly comics.Please include a cover letter as a personal introduction.Responsibilities:Support supervising editor on their respective projects. These responsibilities include:
  • Report to supervising editor on all aspects of book production such as:
  • Proofreading manuscripts.
  • Maintaining communication with freelance artists and writers and provide feedback on story and art.
  • Helping build schedules and setting deadlines for talent.
  • Trafficking materials and initiating payments for accepted work.
  • Coordinating with production, manufacturing, marketing, sales, and other departments.
  • Review materials and share assets with Marvel licensees, ensuring adherence to Marvel brand guidelines and standards.
  • Gather reference materials for freelancers and licensees.
  • Assist supervising editor in developing new series ideas and projects based on market trends. and help identify new and exciting voices and creators.
  • Various writing responsibilities (solicitation text and ad copy).
Qualifications:
  • Basic digital literacy and familiarity with Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office suite required.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task, prioritizing multiple project elements, including deadlines.
  • Practiced documentation skills.
  • Experience handling style and standards for creative products.
  • A passion for great storytelling and knowledge of the Young Adult and Children's marketplace.
  • BA or equivalent experience in English Literature, Writing, Journalism, or related field
The hiring range for this position in New York, NY is $43,000 to $55,000 per year based on a 40 hour work week. The amount of hours scheduled per week may vary based on business needs. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
