Job Description:
The Nassau County District Attorney's Office is currently seeking experienced, practicing attorneys for its Investigations Division in the following bureaus: Narcotics, Firearms & Gangs Bureau: focuses on the investigation, prosecution and dismantling of major narcotics enterprises, firearms traffickers, and gang organizations.Organized Crime & Rackets Bureau: investigates and prosecutes complex and systematic criminal activity committed by organized crime and criminal enterprises. The Bureau's cases include enterprise corruption, extortion, coercion, loansharking, gambling, money laundering, unlicensed money remitting, bribery, pattern burglaries, and trademark counterfeiting.Revenue, Auto, Insurance & Labor Crime (RAIL): investigates and prosecutes complex felony tax, auto, and insurance crimes, as well as thefts of various government assistance program funds, including Medicaid, welfare, food stamps (SNAP), housing, and childcare assistance. RAIL also investigates crimes committed against Nassau County's workforce, such as worker's compensation fraud, wage theft, and construction fraud. In addition, specially trained RAIL attorneys and investigators prosecute illegal dumping, storage and transportation of hazardous materials, and other environmental crimes. Qualifications and RequirementsAll lateral candidates for the Investigations Division must:have passed the NYS Bar Examination and be admitted to the practice of law in NYS, in good standing, prior to submitting an application;reside in New York State as of the effective date of employment with the NCDAO;have at least five (5) years of experience in handling all aspects of criminal investigation and prosecution, including significant long-term investigations experience, as well as grand jury and felony jury trial experience (drafting eavesdropping and A.D. search warrants preferred);have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills;have strong organizational and analytical abilities; andmake a two-year commitment to employment at the NCDAO.Duties and Responsibilities: Day to day life for an ADA in the Investigations Divisions requires organized management of an active criminal case docket, which includes: preparing and filing pleadings, handling discovery, briefing and arguing motions;conducting witness preparation, grand jury presentations, hearings and trials;evaluating cases to formulate and negotiate appropriate dispositions;conferencing cases with defense counsel and judges;making court appearances pertaining to all phases of litigation;investigating cases using various types of legal process (subpoenas, court orders, search warrants, and/or eavesdropping warrants), cooperating defendants, and traditional and electronic surveillance; andcollaborating with the NCPD and Nassau County's local police departments, as well as a variety of local, state and federal law enforcement partners.Job BenefitsAs an ADA, you will receive the following benefits (waiting periods may apply):13 paid holidays each yearGenerous paid vacation, personal and sick days each yearContributory medical, dental and vision plans for you and your dependentsNew York State Employees Retirement PlanOptional Deferred Compensation PlanFlexible benefits plan for medical and child-care expensesChildcare leaveNassau Financial Federal Credit Union optional financial servicesAnnual salary is $93,000 to $163,000.
