**Job Summary:**

The Department of Nursing at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Assistant Director of Nursing, NS32 Labor & Delivery. The successful candidate will:

* Assume responsibility for the Labor and Delivery Department daily operations, including scheduling of staff to align with units nursing care hours.

* Serve as a role model, mentor, and manager and must use ethical principles to guide decisions and actions that are consistent with UHB's operating goals and objectives.

* Must use appropriate policies and procedures in the delivery of quality patient care.

* Collect and maintain necessary data to support Process Improvement-Evidence Based practice.

* Ensure the unit council maintains a productive monthly meeting.

* Develop and implement innovative strategies to promote and foster team spirit and boost morale.

* Take an active role in managing services.

* Promote education and professional development for staff, students, and patients.

* Collaborate with other members of the healthcare team/professional staff members in the development of educational goals for the service.

* Direct and enforces compliance with federal state and regulatory agency standards.

* Monitor and promote the improvement of the patient care process.

**Required Qualifications:**

* Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

* New York State Registered Nurse License.

* Enrolled in a Master's Program.

* Acquire certification in both clinical specialty area and in nursing management within the first 2-years of assuming role.

* 3-5 years of active clinical and management progressive leadership experience.

* BLS certification must be successfully completed within 3-months of employment.

**Preferred Qualifications:**

* Progressive leadership accomplishment in nursing.

* Member of a professional nursing organization.

**Work Schedule:**

Monday to Friday; 8:00am to 4:00pm

**Salary Grade/Rank:**

SL-5

**Salary Range:**

Commensurate with experience and qualifications
