Assistant Camp DirectorAbout Us: Since 1989, HFH Summer Camps has provided NYC children experiencing homelessness with a summer camp experience. Where: HFH Summer Camps are located an hour north of New York City, on the grounds of the 52,000-acre Harriman State Park. A lush preserve of woodland and lakes straddling New York s Rockland and Orange counties, the park has over 200 miles of trails, 31 lakes and reservoirs, camping grounds, beaches, and an abundance of wildlife. We are seeking an upbeat leader/team player for the position of Assistant Camp Director RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Model program participation and appropriate camper interaction.
  • Write the Daily/Weekly Schedule, supervising the scheduling of Activity and General Staff.
  • Mentor and supervise activity staff in activities, teaching, and planning.
  • Conduct periodic formal and informal staff performance evaluations.
  • Meet daily with camp leadership and activity staff to solve problems and improve camp.
  • Help Program staff develop lesson plans that are appropriate for the age of the participants.
  • Plan and run camp wide events including all-camp day and rainy-day alternatives.
  • Supervise planning and execution of all evening and special camp events and programs.
  • Assist camp leadership in planning and executing staff training.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A minimum age of 21- and two-years camping experience, preferably in a leadership capacity.
  • Ensure that all programs are adhering to the guidelines set forth by the New York State Board of Health, Home for the Homeless and the American Camp Association and are carried out in a safe, fun and suitable way.
  • Demonstrates leadership and organizational abilities.
  • Valid Driver s License preferred, but not required.
  • Live on camp from June 11th-August 9th,2024
ADDITIONAL ITEMS NEEDED:
  • Three letters of reference
  • A physical exam by a licensed Medical Doctor and be up to date with all required immunizations.
  • Pass State Central Register Database Check (LDSS-3370) and criminal background check.
  • Additional special skills and certifications (First Aid, CPR, Ropes Course, EMT, and others) are a plus.
2024 CAMP DATES:
  • Tuesday June 11th: Administration & EMT s Start Day
  • Wednesday June 12th: Camp Power Start Day
  • Friday June 14th: Lifeguards & Unit Leaders Start Day
  • Tuesday June 18th: General Counselors & Activity Specialist Start Day
  • Friday August 9th: Last Day for all Staff
