Job Description:

Crisis Services is looking to add to our team. We are seeking an Advocate Hospital Volunteer who is interested in supporting our mission to provide crisis support to anyone in need. This position is an unpaid volunteer position.

Crisis Services is a 24-hour comprehensive crisis center and community resource whose first responders save lives by restoring safety, promoting emotional strength, and reducing the impact of trauma through intervention, education, prevention, and community collaboration.

About this opportunity:

Crisis Services Advocate Department is the New York State Department of Health Certified Rape Crisis Center and a New York State approved non-residential Domestic Violence Service Provider in Erie County. Our Hospital Response Intervention Program provides trauma-informed crisis intervention and response to all 10 Erie County Emergency Departments on an on-call basis for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, family violence, and/or elder abuse. During these interventions, Volunteers provide emotional support, lethality assessment, crisis intervention, and client advocacy. Volunteers collaborate with medical staff, law enforcement, and Crisis Services Staff to ensure the best possible care for the survivor.

Position schedule:

The Advocate Hospital Volunteer will work a required 24 hours per month for 6 months minimum after completion of training; ongoing training provided.

Start date: Rolling start date based on training sessions; 3 training sessions a year (January, April, and August)

What you will bring to this position:

* Minimum high school degree or GED

* No prior education in domestic and sexual violence, counseling, or advocacy required.

* Must be at least 18 years old

* Must have access to reliable transportation. Travel to local hospitals (Erie County only) required.
