Job Description: Nassau Community College invites applications for an Adjunct Instructor position in the Communications Department. The successful candidate will:
- Teach courses in the American Sign Language, plan and deliver curriculum in classrooms, laboratories and/or practicums ensuring that students acquire essential skill sets and objectives stated in departmental course outlines.
- Instruction should be meaningful and assessment-based so students may be observed and evaluated.
- Monitor the students' progress, keep grade records and must provide relevant assessment data to the department in a timely manner.
- Use appropriate terminology, and technology to communicate with students and provide academic support.
- Comply with College policies and procedures.
- Maintain a positive and professional learning environment for students.
Requirements: Master's Degree in a deaf related field such as American Sign Language, Deaf Studies, Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing or other related fields; AND experience teaching ASL on either a high school or college level.In addition to the qualifications listed above, faculty teaching ASL 226, Deaf Culture and Community, must have five (5) years direct experience working with or being a member of the Deaf Community. This may include, but is not limited to interpreting, counseling, and teaching.
