**REMOTE ACCOUNTANT (DATA DRIVEN)**
**YOUR PURPOSE AND FUNCTION IN OUR COMPANY:**
You will provide a strong accounting and reporting foundation to help the company monitor and optimize its investment portfolio of ~$550M, reduce its expense ratio in insurance operations, and comply with relevant laws and regulations.
This position will act as a steward to protect and preserve the assets of the company and accurately report on financial position to internal and external stakeholders. Success in this position will be characterized by continual improvement in processes, driving increased quality and enhanced efficiency, as well as accurate, timely and statutorily-compliant financial reporting.
**AREAS OF FOCUS:**
* Accounting and financial reporting
* Investment accounting and reporting
* Reconciliations
* Expense management
* Regulatory Reporting (monthly, quarterly and annually)
* Management reporting
* Data Extraction: extract and manipulate data from data warehouse
* Data Analysis: utilizing Excel and (optionally) BI software
* Data Presentation: utilize data visualization and present graphically
**QUALIFICATIONS:**
* Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Finance (or equivalent work experience in an insurance company if no such degree)
* At least 3 to 4 years of experience in an accounting and reporting role
* **Strong knowledge of** **Microsoft Excel is a must**, plus at least intermediate knowledge of other MS Office applications
* Knowledge of MS SQL, Tableau or other BI software would be a plus, but not necessary
This position will/is:
Perform month-end close processes including but not limited to:
* Journal entries, transaction processing, reconciliations, and financial analysis
* Run reports and communicate to senior management about month/quarter/ year to date financial results
* Develop new reporting to shine a light on companys financial health
* Coordinate and participate in internal and external finance related audits and data calls
* Research accounting guidance and resolve questions, including guide future decisions
* Work with outside parties (e.g. auditors, investment managers) as needed
* Compile various presentations and reports for management
**KEY CAPABILITIES FOR SUCCESS:**
* Strong accounting technical proficiency, with the ability to research and interpret accounting guidance
* Very strong Excel skills, leveraged to do deep analyses and create efficiencies
* Ability to obtain data from diverse warehouses and create summary conclusions
* Strong understanding of internal controls with the ability to identify and document key controls
* Exceptional positive attitude and ability to work collaboratively
* Insurance industry experience will be a big plus
* Able to communicate crisply and share data, information, facts and ideas proactively
* Ability to work effectively and independently, across different parts of the organization
* Able to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively
* A strong sense of ownership over performance
* Curiosity and a desire to improve processes
